In 1975, I was one of the top long jumpers in the world. Rated #9 in the world and #2 in the United States, my specialty was jumping far in the sandpits of the world. It took faith in my training...faith in my abilities...and faith in myself to accomplish these goals. But there is a different kind of faith that will take us through life. This faith is not produced by us. It is produced by a relationship with Jesus Christ....and a "Jump of Faith" into his arms, his purpose and his destiny for our lives! This is the story of that journey!

The stats listed below will help you understand the accomplishments in my track & field career which started in a small suburb of Kansas City, called Shawnee, Kansas. As a state champion in high school attending Shawnee Mission North High School with a jump of 23'6", I was given a full scholarship to the University of Kansas located in Lawrence, Kansas. As a freshman in college I became the Freshman Record Holder in the Long Jump. I quickly became a Big Eight Champion in the Long Jump and competed, as well, for the University of Kansas, in the triple jump and high jump. Jumping 6'10" off of either foot (my left foot with a straddle roll jump style and with the Fosbury Flop off of my right foot) my coaches quickly decided I would be a great triple jumper. That turned out to be a great addition to my jumping duties, becoming the Big Eight Champion in this event in 1975 and setting a new Big Eight Record, as well. As my jumping career continued to escalate, I achieved a ranking among US jumpers of #2 in the country. I was also catapulted onto the international scene at this time and achieved a ranking of #9 in the world, winning a national championship and competing then in Europe in the summer of 1975 with the USA National Team. As an internationally ranked long jumper, I joined the Pacific Coast Track Club in Long Beach, California, which had many American and World Record Holders. I was picked to make the Olympic team in the long jump for the 1976 Montreal Olympics with 1972 Gold Medalist, Randy Williams, and Arnie Robinson, who became the 1976 Olympic Gold Medalist. Although, I did not make the team, at the US Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon in the summer of 1976, I had no idea, at the time, that my life would take a dramatic turn, and require a different kind of jumping skill...one that required a "Jump of Faith!"
